Redd Kross at Camden Dingwalls

Redd Kross
Dale Crover
Camden Dingwalls, 12 November 2024
After attending the entertaining chat between the McDonald brothers and Thurston Moore for the launch of their book, Now You're One Of Us, last month, I finally got a chance to see Redd Kross live again on the last show of their European tour, in what the band has been calling the "year of Redd Kross!"

Angel Olsen at Camden Dingwalls

Angel Olsen
Honeyblood
Camden Dingwalls, 25 March 2014
Last time I saw Angel Olsen she was playing support to an audience of disinterested Neko Case fans, a small figure on a big empty stage singing cynical but moving songs of love and life. A few months on and she's headlining a sold-out show at Camden Dingwalls that is filled to the rafters and hanging on her every word. What a difference a little buzz and a brilliant and critically acclaimed new album can make but it is well deserved.

Caitlin Rose at Camden Dingwalls

Camden Dingwalls, 27 February 2013
There's a show on TV right now called Nashville focusing on a seasoned country diva and a hip new starlet. But it's the smaller musicians frequenting the intimate and infamous Bluebird Cafe that are the most likeable and talented and watching Caitlin Rose's superb opening acts, Andrew Combs and the instrumental group Steelism, I can definitely imagine them in those legendary settings being discovered by the DJ/producer played by JD Souther.

Anaïs Mitchell at Camden Dingwalls

Anaïs Mitchell & The Young Man Band
Rachel Ries
Camden Dingwalls, 12 June 2012
Looking like she's just stepped out of a 1950s picture book wearing a full-skirted blue and white gingham dress, Rachel Ries (who is also a member of Anaïs Mitchell's band) immediately ruins the illusion by strapping on a bright red electric guitar. Her music though isn't far removed from that first impression: lonesome country-tinged folk songs with a nice line in storytelling.

Omar Rodriguez Lopez at Dingwalls

Omar Rodriguez-Lopez Group
Zechs Marquise
Camden Dingwalls, 11 March 2009
Before this show I had seen Omar Rodriguez-Lopez live in three other bands - At The Drive-In, De Facto and The Mars Volta (three times) - but I've never seen him as the star of the show and without right hand man Cedric Bixler-Zavala stealing a lot of the attention. Could he pull it off?
